David S. Oliver

David S. Oliver, 61, of 156 Fairmont Drive in Bassett, died Monday, October 25, 2010 at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville. He was born in Henry County, January 23, 1949 to Edgar McDonald Oliver and Margie Adkins Oliver. He was a 1968 graduate of Bassett High School and was self-employed as a heavy equipment operator prior to retirement. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Bassett.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marie O. Priest.

Surviving are two daughters, Amy Oliver Riley and her husband, Scott Riley of Stafford, VA and Ashley Oliver Adams and her husband, Jimmy Adams of Brentwood, TN; a step-daughter, Tracy Harris Chisholm of Collinsville; five grandchildren, Bryce Riley, Taylor Riley, Kyla Hall, Masey Adams and Jimmy Adams; three sisters, Clara O. Joyce of Oviedo, FL, Katherine O. Craig and Ilene O. Craig, both of Bassett; one brother, Edgar Oliver, Jr. of Florida and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 28, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church of Bassett with the Rev. Lew Bennett and Monroe Light officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Hermon Church of the Brethren Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church of Bassett and other times at the residence on Fairmont Drive.
