

Evelyn Clark Conway, 86, of 105 Winnfield Road in Bassett, died Sunday, September 2, 2012 at her residence. She was born in Rockingham County, NC on August 24, 1926 to Joseph H. and Josie C. Clark. She retired from Tultex after 30 years of service and was co-owner of Jack’s Texaco in Bassett. Evelyn had been a member of First Baptist Church of Bassett for over 60 years where she was involved in a variety of activities. She loved working with the youth and was known as the “candy lady”.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Conway; one sister, Estelle C. Adkins; three brothers, Joe H. Clark, Robert L. Clark and Odell O. Clark; two half brothers, O.A. Clark and Delano W. Clark.
She is survived by one daughter, Judy C. Hall and her husband, David of Bassett and two grandchildren, Heather Compton and Chris Hall.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Bassett with Pastor Lew Bennett and Monroe Light officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12:30 to 2:00 pm prior to the funeral service at the church.
