 Mr Frederick Herman Holt was born January 5, 1930 in Henry County Virginia to Joseph Holt and Alice Sheffield Holt. Herman attended grade school until the sixth grade. He was in the Army and served in the Korean War from February 21, 1951 to November 20, 1952. He was honorably discharged as a PFC. Herman met the love of his life Katie Delight Shelton in grade school and, he later married in April 1954 and has been happily married for 66 years. This union bore 4 beautiful children: Angie, Kay,Teresa) and Lisa . He loved all his family and enjoyed spending holidays and all events with them. Herman (poppa) was loved by his grandchildren and great grandchildren he attended recitals, football games’ baptism, birthday parties, graduation and so much more. He will truly be missed by all. He worked for Bassett Mirror Company for over 40 plus years. Once retired from Bassett Mirror he worked at Food Lion for 10 years. Herman had a love for Math and was a tutor at Albert Harris Elementary School for many years. Herman “Deacon” Holt was a longtime member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. In the past he was an active member of the Sunday School Convention, deacon, trustee, Sunday school superintendent. On Sunday mornings he would pick up numerous children in the community to take them to church. In his later years he was a part of the senior and male choir and played and active role on the food committee. Herman was known for his lemonade. Also, in his later years he ministered the word through the telephone, he had several people that he would contact to spread the word of God. We all knew he loved the telephone. Herman is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Alice, sister Ardelia; brothers Carl, Jimmy, Willie and Henry. He is survived by his wife Katie; daughters Angie (Ervin) Carter, Kay Pilson, Teresa (Mike) Gray, Lisa (Carlton) Riley. He had six grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren. Daddy (Herman), Poppa will truly be missed by his family. His favorite scripture was 2nd chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive there sin, and heal there land. Herman is now healed and with our Heavenly Father. A floating visitation will be held on Friday, November 13, 2020 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be conducted at 12:00 PM on Saturday, November 14, 2020 in Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery located at 338 John Baker Road, Fieldale, Virginia 24089.
