

Born July 9, 1934 in Hickory, NC, he was the son of the late Virginia Clark Meador and Henry Bennett Meador, Sr.
Ben was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in 1956, after graduation from Washington & Lee University.
After a short stint in the army, Ben graduated from Washington & Lee Law School in 1960.
Ben worked in the banking industry for many years, including starting the Trust Department at the First Bassett Bank, and ending his career with BB&T Trust Services in Martinsville, Virginia.
After retirement, he became the executive director of the Virginia and Whitby B. Sale Foundation for fifteen years. He did pro bono legal work, specifically as a guardian ad litem for the Henry County Court system. He was a member of and served as a past president of the Bassett Kiwanis Club, past chairman of the American Red Cross, a planning committee member and served on the board of directors of Kings Grant Retirement Community. He also served on the planning committee for the Edwards Adult Day Care Center of Martinsville-Henry County. He served on the Martinsville Henry County Social Services Board for seven years, including two years as chairman during which time they moved into their new facility. He was also a member of the Grace Network Board of Directors.
He was a past member of the First Presbyterian Church of Martinsville, serving as an elder and as clerk of the session. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Collinsville for ten years, serving as an elder, clerk of the session, adult Sunday school teacher, and as trustee.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Sue N. Meador, and by his four children, daughter Sue M. Haley and husband Jim of Harrisonburg, Virginia, daughter Liza M. White and husband Graham, of Oak Ridge, NC, son Bennett (Sandy) Meador and Tina Davis, of Farmville, Virginia, and son Robert (Bobby) Meador and wife Julie D. Meador, of Martinsville, Virginia. He was the proud grandfather of Rachel H. Brown and husband Aaron Brown, of Harrisonburg, Virginia, David Bennett Haley and Briana Haymore of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Zachary E. White of Oak Ridge, NC, and Bennett G. White, of Blacksburg, Virginia.
He is also survived by a sister-in-law and her husband, Nancy and Tom McGalliard of Knoxville, Tennessee and a niece, Anna M. Zovodny, and husband John, of Belfast, Maine and a nephew, Tad McGalliard, and wife Sharon, of Severna Park, Marylard, and grand-nephew, Thomas.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, November 1, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church of Collinsville, Virginia, with John Wiederholt officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 pm to 2 pm prior to the service and other times at the home. A reception will be held following the service in the fellowship hall. Collins-McKee Stone Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
