James Rodney Shelton

James Rodney Shelton, age 73, a resident of Treasure Point, Bath, NC and a former resident of South Windsor, CT, passed away on Monday, May 2, 2016 at his residence after a brief illness. James was born August 20, 1942 in Patrick Springs, VA, to the late Evelyn Deal Shelton and James Harvey Shelton.

After high school he attended Hartford State Tech and Western New England University. He also served his country in the United States Air Force. On April 14, 1966 he married the former Renate Klara-Anna Jahnke. James retired as Vice-president with Becon Inc. in Bloomfield, CT in 2005, and also served as President with Becon’s sister company, Automated Blasting Systems in South Windsor, CT, having given 39 years of service. He was a member of Lea’s Foundation and was a member of Bath Christian Church in Bath, NC.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother Jonnie Shelton. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, James Randy Shelton of Leonardtown, MD and Scott Shelton of Cary, NC, and one daughter, Sonya Olson of Enfield, CT; two granddaughters Kaley Shelton and Brittany Olson; four grandsons, Connor, Hunter, Noah, and Matthew Shelton. James is also survived by one brother, Donnie Shelton of Bassett, VA.

A celebration of his life will be held at 12:30 PM, Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Collins Funeral Home, 30 Riverside Hwy, Bassett, VA. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Shelton Family Cemetery in Patrick Springs, VA,
