
John Wilson Metz, 88, of 200 Westfield Lane in Bassett, passed from his earthly home to his heavenly farm on Saturday morning, March 5, 2011. He was born in Henry County on December 3, 1922 to George Willie Metz and Elsie Thomasson Metz. He was a graduate of Franklin County High School. John and his brother, George, farmed the family farm , Westfield, located in the Oak Level community of Henry and Franklin Counties. John loved the land and his animals, especially horses, cats and dogs. John also loved reminiscing of days gone by with friends and family.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by three sisters, Julia Metz, Inez M. Miller and Elsie M. Young ; two brothers, Ralph Metz and George Metz; sister-in-law, Rebecca J. Metz; brothers-in-law, David Miller and Delma Young; nephews, James (Jimmy) Miller and Gale Young.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years, Virginia Mullins Metz of the residence; sister-in-law, Betty Mullins Metz, and his faithful canine companion, Tiny. Although John and Virginia never had children, his many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great nephews treasured their time with Uncle John, including Gordon Metz and wife Brenda, Winnie Metz, Elsie Miller Lawrence and husband Tom, Julia Young Bennett and husband Herb.
The family will receive friends Sunday, March 6, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Bassett.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 7, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at Oak Level Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Charles Lumpkin officiating. Interment will follow in Henry Memorial Park.
