

Roger Gray Gibbs, age 75, of Collinsville, died Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at Pheasant Ridge Memory Care in Roanoke. Born May 11, 1938, in Martinsville, he was the son of the late Ollis W. Gibbs and Lottie Young Gibbs. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Frances Gibbs Kerns, a brother, Larry Gibbs, and a grandson, Nicholas Gray Haggas. Roger was a 1961 graduate of Virginia Tech and continued to be an avid fan of the Hokies. He was a planning engineer at DuPont with 33 ½ years of service.
He was a family man who loved playing games with his grandchildren, playing golf, and was fond of country music - especially Merle Haggard. Roger was a real handyman and always had an abundance of projects, including rebuilding several MG autos over the years. He and Anne spent many years in North Myrtle Beach where they were members of Little River United Methodist Church. He loved long walks on the beach, especially when they ended at Hoskin’s Restaurant, where he was a loyal patron.
They moved back to Collinsville in 2012 and became members of Chatham Heights Baptist Church. Roger is survived by his wife Anne Mitchell Gibbs, his step-mother, Irene Gibbs of Rocky Mount, daughters, Lori Gibbs Reichart and husband Brian of Cumming, GA, Julie Gibbs France and husband Tony of Denver, NC, Mitzi Gibbs Haggas and husband Josh of Huntersville, NC, stepdaughters Mary Yates Hall and husband Tim of Collinsville, Amy Yates Elliott and husband Rich of Ridgeway, grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Emily Reichart, Taylor and Morgan France, Reagan and Riley Haggas, Ara Catherine and Marat Hall, Kollin and Mason Elliott, brothers, David Gibbs and wife Mary Louise of Bassett, Jerry Gibbs and wife Addie of Martinsville, Phillip Gibbs and wife Penny of Perry, GA, sisters, Dot Gibbs Pierce of Ayden, NC, Sherry Gibbs Cameron and husband Fred of Lumberton, NC, and Martha Gibbs Brown and husband Shaun of Burnt Chimney.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 1, 2014, 2:00 P.M. at Chatham Heights Baptist Church, followed by a 3:00 P.M. memorial service with the Rev. Dr. Mike Hatfield officiating. A memorial service will be held in North Myrtle Beach at a time to be determined.
