

Russell was a devoted Christian and a true witness for God everywhere he went.
He loved people and never met a stranger. Having lived 97+ years and raised during the depression, he had many interesting stories and jokes that would keep a person spell- bound for a long while.
Russell was an only son with seven sisters, 6 are deceased, Sadie, Bertha, Dot, Maggie, Hattie, and Minnie. 1 son, Lynwood Mize, is also deceased. Russell worked at Bassett Chair factory for 14 years as a foreman. He then worked in the funeral business for 30+ years in Bassett. He is also known as “The Sock Man”. He is a member of Christian Faith Baptist Church.
Russell is survived by his devoted wife, Katherine Morrison Mize of Fairystone Park Highway, Stuart; a daughter, Louise Lovely of Bevard, North Carolina; a sister, Ethel Lewis of Martinsville; a daughter-in- law, Nancy Mize of Ridgeway; two stepdaughters, Sylvia Plaster, and Donna Thomas of Stuart; 3 Grandchildren, Darlene Griffin, Carol Johnston, and Linda Helms; 3 step-grandchildren, Dwayne Adams, Dustin Thomas, and Darren Thomas; two step-great grandchildren; three step- great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends on saturday may 20, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m at Collins funeral chapel Bassett.
Funeral services will be at Collins Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. with Pastors Richard Dodson, Calvin Adams, and Bobby Rakes officiating. Burial to follow at Old Center Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery on the family plot.
