Sue Anne Newton Meador

She was born December 17, 1934 in Hickory, NC to Evan Lester Newton and Avis Propst Newton, who preceded her in death.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Henry Bennett Meador, Jr.

Mrs. Meador was a homemaker and mother. She made sure the needs of her children and husband were met every day. Sue had been a preschool teacher for over 30 years. She taught at 2nd Presbyterian Church in Roanoke, ran a preschool program in her home in Bassett, and taught at Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church. She was an avid sports fan, always supporting her children’s and grandchildren’s sports teams. She also loved the Washington Redskins, the Atlanta Braves, and the North Carolina Tarheels.

She is survived by her daughters: Sue M. Haley and her husband, Jim of Harrisonburg, VA and Liza M. White and her husband, Graham of Oak Ridge, NC; her sons: Bennett “Sandy” Meador and Tina Davis, of Farmville,VA and Robert “Bobby” Meador and his wife, Julie of Martinsville, VA; four grandchildren: Rachel H. Brown and her husband, Aaron of Dayton, VA, David B. Haley and Briana Haymore of Harrisonburg, VA, Zachary E. White of Falls Church, VA and Bennett G. White of Oak Ridge, NC; a great-grandson: Samuel Evan Brown of Dayton, VA; a sister: Nancy McGalliard and her husband, Tom of Knoxville, TN; a niece: Anna M. Zovodny and her husband, John of Belfast, Maine; a nephew: Tad McGalliard and his wife Sharon of Severna Park, MD; and a grand-nephew: Thomas McGalliard of Severna Park, MD.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church of Collinsville.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church of Collinsville with Rev. John Wiederholt and Rev. Dwight Christenberry officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date.
