Born in Roanoke on December 15, 1927, she was a daughter of the late George Barnes and Lucy Gunter Barnes. Also preceding her in death was her husband William Clarence Joyce. She was a member of Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church and worked for First National Bank of Bassett. She left banking to become a very active Mom to her five children.
Surviving are three daughters, Lynne Joyce Leonard of Atlanta, GA, Lucy Joyce “Karen” Luc of Mountain Lakes, NJ, Lisa Joyce Holloway of Serverna Park, MD, two sons, William C. Joyce Jr. of Atlanta, GA, Robert Steven Joyce of Collinsville, a sister, Goldie Barnes Keesee of Danville, two brothers, James Barnes of Ridgeway, Jewel Barnes of Bedford, fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. Monday, October 6, 2014, at Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jim Hewitt officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
