Willie H. Nelson

Mrs. Nelson was born on February 18, 1936 to James Nathaniel Hutcherson and Aufeldia Mae Rhodes Hutcherson. She was raised by her father and step-mother, Mary Elizabeth Joyce Hutcherson, as well as a kind lady in the community named Mabel. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, stepmother, six sisters, a great-grandson, and her husband of 57 years, Billy Hill Nelson. She is survived by her sisters, Joyce Hutcherson of Mayodan, NC and Peggy Webster (adopted sister); a brother-in-law, Bennie Cardwell; many nieces and nephews; two children (Debbie Blanzy and husband, Don, of Seattle, WA, and Billy Nelson of Bronx, NY). She is also survived by three grand-daughters and their husbands (Sarah and Luke Abare, Abbi and Nathan Johnson of Seattle, WA), and Jenni and Chad Windham of Charlotte, NC; and five great-grandchildren (Jake, Evelyn, Liam, Jocelyn, and Silas). Mrs. Nelson was an active member at Fort Trial Baptist Church for many years….singing in the choir and volunteering for Upward Basketball. She retired from Stanley Furniture Co. in 1994. She volunteered at John Redd Elementary School for many years assisting students where they needed help and was honored by the Collinsville Jaycees with the 2007 Outstanding Service Award for her community service. She participated in the lunch buddies program at Stanleytown Elementary School. A special word of gratitude is due Fred and Francis Roach who assisted with Mrs. Nelson’s needs during the latter years of her life. The labor of love given by them is appreciated beyond description by her family. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that contributions be made in memoriam to St. Jude Research Hospital. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 25, 2018 from 2:00PM till 4:00pm at Collins Funeral Home, Bassett, VA. A Graveside Service will be held at Henry Memorial Park Monday, November 26, 2018 at 10:00 AM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
