Ball cap and blue jeans is what he mostly wore,
White socks and steel toe boots, and usually nothing more.
Ears full of hair and a head full of hard,
And in his pockets there was tobacco and some cards.
He was a jolly old feller, just like most of his kin,
Always full of laughter and on his face a grin.
He was a simple man and he didn’t need all that much,
Wasn’t really into fancy things, all the hype and such.
Oh how he loved to fish and build things here and there,
Mowed the grass, tinkered with stuff and of course played solitaire.
He liked hanging out with his grandkids and telling stories to them all,
And spending his Sunday’s watching Dallas Cowboy football.
“Well all be damned” and “gosh darnit” were phrases that he used,
Probably learned them in the Army before he was through.
Made a living in the oil field, as with most his kids,
Laid to rest here in Texas, cause that’s where he chose to live.
Grandpa was a very proud man, and his was heart full of love,
Though he lived a long tough life, he was as gentle as a dove.
He was who he was, something special to each one,
We all share a part of him, in what we have become.
Though we all will miss him and wish he was still here,
In our hearts we’ll hold all the memories so dear.
But now he is with Jesus, and some of his family,
We’ll see him again one day...just you wait and see.
