Our beloved mother Dorothy Maude Juarez, born September 28, 1930, was called home to be with the Lord August 2, 2013 at 3:20 pm. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Connie Juarez; by her brothers, Roy, Victor, and Dan Juarez; and by her sisters, Lucille, Bell, Mary, and Gladys. She is survived by her baby brother, Henry Juarez and wife Julia and by her sisters, Frances Vera, and Nora Galvan and her husband Eddie. She leaves behind 7 children, Beatrice Reyes and husband Antonio, Paul Gutierrez and wife Sharon, Nancy Bulak and husband Stanley Jr., Sandra Sanchez, Rosemary Gutierrez, Hattie Ryan and Robert Gutzler. She has 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren, with 3 on their way. Dorothy was well known in the community, often called by her nickname China or more recently “Abuela” or “grandma.” Dorothy was a strong hardworking woman who worked many jobs to support her family. Dorothy worked as a cook in many local restaurants, as well as a custodian, dispatcher, jailer, and cook at the old courthouse. Dorothy was not afraid of hard work or getting dirty because she also worked in the oil fields. No one was prouder than she was to have been able to accomplish all of this with only a fifth grade education. Family was the most important thing to her. Spending time with her children and grandchildren brought her the greatest joy. Dorothy would always say, “My children are important, but there is a special place in my heart for my grandchildren. You can spoil them and send them home.” But surprisingly, she never did. Dorothy left a lasting impression on everyone she met and will be greatly missed. She would like to say thank you to her doctors, Dr. Chavez of Bastrop and Dr. Tiblier of Austin, as well as the nurses of Revolution Hospice for their wonderful care.
