Ruby Hefner Fohn was born on October 22, 1917 and passed away on December 12, 2011 at the age of 94. Ruby was truly loved and adored by her husband, E.L. "Skeet" Fohn, who, despite being stood up on their first date, managed to get Ruby to say "I do" at least once in their 60 years of marriage. Ruby was loved by and will truly be missed by her six children and their spouses, Jonell (Verlin) Callahan, Jerry (Loretta) Fohn, Bobby (Nell) Fohn, Janet (Larry) Hendrix, Johnny (Cathy) Fohn and Joy (Mike) Ulrich, eighteen (18) grandchildren and eighteen (18) great-grandchildren and her faithful canine companion, Goldie.
Ruby was known for her infectious laughter, her generosity, her kindness to stray animals, her love of playing bingo, until macular degeneration took her eyesight, and slot machines, which despite her blindness she could still hear the sounds of a jackpot. Favorite memories include trips to Hondo and Port Aransas, weekly forays to the VFW Hall for bingo night (before Coushatta opened), staying at Ruby's house before there was such a thing as daycare, receiving Ruby's home perms and haircuts, partaking of Ruby's special pecan pie, and attending many wonderful Fohn and Watterson picnics.
Ruby was preceded in death by and joins in heaven her husband, E.L. "Skeet" Fohn, parents Callie Watterson Hefner and Henry Hefner, Jr., her brothers and sisters, and her great-grandson Kacey Hendrix.
A rosary will be recited on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at 7:00 p.m., Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rockne, Texas, with services to be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Burial to take place at Watterson Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Bastrop Lost Pines Nursing and Rehab and Resolutions Hospice for their thoughtfulness and compassion while Ruby was in their care. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Watterson Cemetery Association, the Foundation for Fighting Blindness or some other charitable organization.
Arrangements under the direction of Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home, Bastrop, TX.
