He was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. A resident of Baker and a native ofWhiteCastle, Adam died at 5:31 p.m.Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007. He was 83. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., was on Friday, Feb. 9, from 5 p.m.to 9 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m.Visiting at St. Isidore Catholic Church, Baker, on Saturday, Feb. 10, from 9 a.m.until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., concelebrated by the Rev. Gerald Burns and the Rev. Fred Youngs. Interment inGreenoaksMemorial Park. Adam is survived by his wife and lifelong companion, Jeannie Burns Martinez of Baker; son and daughter-in-law, Kraig and Linda C. Martinez of Zachary; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jeannie M. and Wayne Tyson of Central, Kathy M. and Michael Schittone Jr. of Denham Springs, and Jill M. and Mark Cifreo Sr. of Zachary; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Lucille Spragio and Adam Napoleon Martinez Sr.; and son, Randy B. Martinez. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Paul Martinez, Jerry Robinson, Jeffrey Robinson, Michael Schittone III, Shelby Martinez and Mark Cifreo Jr. Adam was a retired chief of police of Baker and commissioned with theEast Baton Rougeand Zachary sheriff's offices. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, having served in the First Marine Division in World War II and the Korean War. He received many awards and honors, including a Purple Heart medal for his courageous mission on Bloody Nose Ridge,PeleliuIsland. He was a member of St. Isidore Church and the Knights of Columbus. Adam's strength, faith and love instilled a special and everlasting mark in everyone he knew. The family would like to thank Hospice of Baton Rouge.
