
Alice Wagner Soderberg passed away peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, at her home in Baton Rouge, surrounded by her family. Alice, known to her grandchildren as "Grammy," was born May 20, 1920, in Reliance, S.D., to Horace Roe and Sarah Thompson Wagner. She attended Cooper Country School, graduated from Chamberlin High School and received her teaching degree at Black Hills Teachers College, Spearfish, S.D. Alice married Carney Ray Soderberg on Dec. 23, 1944, in Rapid City, S.D., and raised a family of three while living in Wyoming, Colorado and Louisiana. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Carney; brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Leta Wagner, and Gilbert and Ila Wagner. Survived by her children, Sara Walvoord and husband James, of Rockport, Texas, Carney Soderberg Jr. and Robyn Vidak, of Blenheim, New Zealand, and Curtis Soderberg and wife Arden, of Baton Rouge. Also surviving are grandchildren, John Walvoord and wife Teresa, Kristy Walvoord Franta and husband Kevin, Carney Soderberg III and wife Alicia, Erin Soderberg and husband George Monsour, Allison Soderberg, Colby Soderberg, Kyle Soderberg and Jorie Soderberg; great-grandchildren, Zara and Elena Franta; sister, Hazel Davis, of Pensacola, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to caregivers, Sandra Johnson and Arlene Taylor; nurse, Nikkita Addison; and the loving folks from Clarity Hospice. A memorial celebration of Alice's life will be held at a future date.
