Ann DeVillier Riffel died at her home in Baton Rouge on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at the age of 98. She was born in Krotz Springs, the daughter of Charles “Kinney” DeVillier and Anais LeGrand DeVillier, both natives of St. Martin Parish. When she reached her teenage years, she came to Baton Rouge with her eldest sister and brother-in-law to attend high school. After graduating from Istrouma in 1944, she worked at the Engineering Depot as a cashier and at Dalton’s Department Store as a file clerk. During World War II, she attended numerous USO dances, where the closely chaperoned young ladies danced with the service men. She was married to Glynn L. “Buddy” Riffel for 70 years and had two children. During the Bicentennial of the United States, she and her daughter became interested in tracing their French and Acadian roots. Soon afterwards, she became an active volunteer with the historical and genealogical preservation group Le Comité des Archives de la Louisiane, and in 1983, was recognized as Outstanding Member. For many years, she served on the organization’s Board of Directors and as Publications Chairman, then as President in 2019. After stepping down as President, she served once again on the Board until her death. She is survived by her two children, Arthur and Judy Riffel. Donations may be made in her name to Le Comité or to the genealogical society of your choice.
