Annie Ruth lived a life of grace from the aftermath of tragedy, leaving a legacy of strength and song. Her life was forever altered at a very young age when a tornado claimed the lives of her mother and sister, Maire. Growing up under the care of some of her siblings, she learned independence and resolve early in life. As a teenager, she left Mississippi and settled in Baton Rouge with a brother, graduating from Istrouma High School. A talented pianist, she found her greatest joy in later years through music, providing accompaniment to her church and at home while her daughter sang. She also loved shopping and working alongside her husband.
Annie Ruth is survived by her husband of 74 years, Robert W. Brownie; one daughter, Judy B. Kling, and her husband, Gary A. Kling, Sr.; three grandsons, Gary A. "Andy" Kling, Jr. and his wife, Jody; Bryan J. Kling and his wife, Andrea L., and Chad M. Kling and his wife, Andrea P.; and her great-grandchildren, Sydnie, Parker, Presley, Gabrielle, Brennan, Paxton, and Kensley Kling.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Myrtis Brabham Caston as well as 6 brothers: Arthur, G.C., Vardaman, Bilbo, Edgar, and Charles; and 2 sisters: Helen and Marie.
Pallbearers will be Andy Kling, Bryan Kling, Chad Kling, Parker Kling, Brennan Kling, and Paxton Kling. A special thanks to the OLOL ICU staff and St. Joseph Hospice nurse, Megan.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70815 on Wednesday, March 11th, 2026, at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM until service time. Burial will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
