

"Augustus Alonzo "Pete" Hall Jr., a retired Army colonel and a medical doctor, died Friday, December 15, 2017 after a brief illness. He was 84. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Helen Gerrity "Becky" Hall; a brother, Archibald Hall and wife Martha; three daughters, Margaret Hall, Lo-Ra Dick and husband Edward, and Martha Miner; two sons, Augustus "Bud" Hall III and wife June, and John Hall and wife Nikki; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild expected in July 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Augustus Hall Sr. and Sarah Jamieson Hall. Dr. Hall was born in Columbus, Ohio, on August 27, 1933. He graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, in 1955. He was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army while in medical school at the University of Texas in Dallas in 1959 and graduated in 1960. Dr. Hall fulfilled assignments at Darnall Army Medical Center in Fort Hood, Texas, and Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany. In 1965, he completed a medical residency in internal medicine at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. He later served in the Vietnam War in the 93rd Air E-Vac at Long Binh, Vietnam. Dr. Hall completed a gastroenterology fellowship in 1972 at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C. He also served as chief of medicine at Martin Army Community Hospital in Fort Benning, Georgia, and chief of medicine and chief of gastroenterology at Evans U. S. Army Community Hospital in Fort Carson, Colorado. He retired from the United States Army as a full colonel in 1986. Dr. Hall continued his medical career at City of Faith Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and later at Stanocola Medical Clinic in Baton Rouge. He retired in 2002. Dr. Hall had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and was a member of Chapel on the Campus and Jefferson Baptist Church. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 20, at Jefferson Baptist Church (9135 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge) from 5:30-8:30 p.m. and will continue Thursday, December 21, from 10-11 a.m. The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., and will be officiated by Dr. David L. Goza. Interment will follow at Louisiana National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family members request donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Samaritan's Purse.
