

Betty Janell Johnson King was born at home in central Alabama on June 26, 1939, the middle of nine children. She died peacefully at home, surrounded by her children, on October 9, 2021. Betty graduated from Macon County High in May of 1957 and married William Bruce King in December of 1957. Betty was employed many years as a bookkeeper/accounting department manager. She worked for Jesus all of her life, teaching Sunday School and leading Women's Bible Studies and showing Christ to anyone she met. She authored a Bible study on depression and the 23rd Psalm. She had been reading the Bible through since she was 13 years old and in the last years, stood by Isaiah 41:10. Survived by her 3 children Beth Serpas (Stewart), David King (Karen), Tim King (Natalie); grandchildren Mitchell Serpas (Chavanne), Victoria Serpas Higbie (Steve); great-grandchildren Twins Ben and Willow Serpas; siblings Vee Smith, Bennie Johnson, Jerry Johnson. Preceded in death by husband Bruce King, parents Leander and Birdie Lee Johnson, sisters Gaynell Myren and Ann Carter, brothers Billy Johnson, Bobby Johnson, James Johnson. Visitation from noon until the service at 2 pm on Friday, October 15 at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge.
