
A retired process technician with Shell Chemical, he died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2011, at his home following an extended illness. He was 76, a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Bearden, Ark. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday, Feb. 23, was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home Thursday from noon until religious service at 2 p.m., conducted by Dr. Ferris Jordan and Ron Lambe. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by his wife, Joy M. Cox; two daughters, Pam Schmieder and Gail Altazan, both of Baton Rouge; sons-in-law, Jude Altazan and Ty Keith Schmieder; two sons, Michael Cox, Lake Jackson, Texas, and Mark Cox, Baton Rouge; sister, Juanita Stokes, Camden, Ark; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Deborah Vincent, Abbeville, and Terri Piper, Livingston; stepsons-in-law, Roger Vincent, Abbeville, and Dennis Piper, Livingston; five stepgrandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his first wife, Winona Bryant Cox; parents, Blanche and Nolan Cox; and great-granddaughter, Morgan Altazan. He was an active member of Istrouma Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Jude Altazan, Ty Keith Schmieder, Roger Vincent, Tres Vincent, Tommy Dufour and Tommy Webb.
