
Employed in sales prior to a spinal cord injury, he died peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Sunday, June 28, 2009, at 11:50 p.m. He was 44, a resident of Denham Springs and a native of Cincinnati. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday, July 1, was from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home on Thursday from 9 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m., conducted by Leslie Stephens, pastor. Interment will be in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Survived by his parents, William and Theresa Betts; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Sheryl Betts, and Michelle and Cliff Samson; oldest and dearest friend, Remi Brignac; niece, Brittanie Wallace; and nephews, Randy Wallace, Kenneth, Logan and Charles Samson. Preceded in death by his grandparents, Rocco and Rose Stellatano and Lester and Esther Betts. Pallbearers will be Cliff, Kenneth and Logan Samson, Randy Wallace and Remi and Beau Brignac. Honorary pallbearers are Chuck Fontenot, Charles Samson III and Danny King. After his injury, he received a master's degree with honors from LSU. Prior to the injury, he was an avoid golfer and huge sports fan. Brian enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His family meant everything to Brian. He treasured his time spent with Remi and his family. He knew what truly mattered in life and was an inspiration to everyone he came in contact with. The family would like to thank the doctors who cared for Brian and a special thanks to Dr. Michael McCarthy and Dr. Michael Day for the special care given to him during his illness. Also, a special thank you to his home health nurses and friends, Dorothy Ewen and Amy Hurst for taking such good care of Brian for so long. A huge thank you to hospice nurses, Bonnie and Neeley who were there to comfort Brian as well as us in our darkest hour and for that we can never thank you enough. Brian, we will miss you and treasure the memories of our time together until we meet again. You are truly an angel.
