Bryan Simmons Post was born in Baton Rouge on May 22, 1941 and passed away on January 5, 2026 due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease. A devoted wife, mother, and teacher, Bryan left a mark on generations of her students.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond G. “Skipper” Post Jr., her father, Dr. William McHugh “Mac” Simmons, her mother, Phoebe Bryan Simmons, her sister, Laurie Simmons Plaisance, and her brother, William “Bill” McHugh Simmons, Jr. She is survived by her son, Raymond G. Post III (Jenny), her daughter, Wendy Martin (Patrick), and her cherished grandchildren, Raymond O. Post (Gaby), Mia Martin, Jordan Post, and Andrew Post, as well as her sister, Suzanne Homan. Her sister-in-law, Antoinette “Toni” Post, also mourns her passing.
Bryan was widely known as the wife of architect and AIA President Skipper Post, and served him well in support of his ambitions. She married the “tall Catholic boy,” whom she first asked out in 8th grade. She was as devoted to him as he was to her, and they shared a long and happy life together.
Bryan’s own professional calling was teaching. In 1963, immediately after graduating from LSU and just four years after graduating from Baton Rouge High School herself, Bryan began teaching physical education at BRHS. A year later, she moved to Broadmoor High and began teaching math before taking a few years off to raise Ray and Wendy. When they started school, she returned to her alma mater, where she taught advanced math to Baton Rouge’s brightest students for 25 years. In 1982, she was inducted into the BRHS Hall of Fame. After taking a short break upon retiring from BRHS, she returned to teaching in 2003, spending several years at Episcopal High and Bishop Sullivan before retiring for good after 37 years of teaching. She often said, “I love teaching, I really do. It never crossed my mind to do anything else.”
In addition to her teaching career, Bryan was an active civic leader, serving with distinction in the Junior League and many other charitable organizations. Bryan was known throughout Baton Rouge as a superb hostess, regularly entertaining their friends at the home that she and Skipper designed and built, and where they raised their children. Bryan was also an avid outdoors enthusiast, whether boating, skiing, or hiking in the mountains. More than anything, she loved being a grandmother to Raymond, Jordan, Andrew, and Mia.
