

Dr. Bryant Edward Dean—“Pa”—found his heavenly voice early Wednesday morning at the Butterfly Unit of The Hospice of Baton Rouge. Bryant was surrounded by his children as he was peacefully called home after an extension of the stroke he suffered eight years ago. He was 89 years old. Bryant was born in Tioga, LA, and previously resided in Alexandria, LA, Opelousas, LA, Toledo Bend, LA, and Athens, TX before finally returning home to Baton Rouge. He graduated from Bolton High School and Louisiana College. He also earned a Master’s degree in Music from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Doctorate degree in Religious Education from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He was a retired minister of music and education having served in many churches in Louisiana and Texas including First Baptist Church of Denham Springs, LA; Calvary Baptist Church in Alexandria, LA; First Baptist Church in Opelousas, LA, and Florida Boulevard Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, LA and Aimwell Baptist Church in Zowlle, LA. Bryant was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Clarence Dean and Dora Anna Kirkland Dean of Tioga, LA, his brothers Graham Dean and A.C. Dean, two sisters Alma Dean and Baby Dean and he was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Jewell Ware Dean. Surviving to cherish his memory are his son Michael Dean and wife Linda of Athens, TX, daughters Patricia Wall and husband Don of Baton Rouge, Julia Wall and husband Gary of Montgomery, TX, and Rebecca Brice and husband Mike of Baton Rouge. He also left nine grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren whom he adored: Kristi Frye and husband Jeff of Frisco, TX, and their children, Alex and Abby; Jason Wall and wife Angie, of Baton Rouge, and their children Hannah and Hayley; Chris Wall and wife Melissa of Montgomery TX, and their children Caleb and Madison; Jared Wall, of Denham Springs, LA, and his children Kaitlyn Jackson and Keith; Kevin Dean and wife Jennifer of Houston, TX; Allison Ackerman and husband Jerrad, of Fredericksburg, VA, and their children, Lily and Ella; Marcus Wall and wife Kathy, of Lubbock, TX, and their children, Aiden and Corbin; Michael Wall and wife Meaghan, of Frisco, TX, and their children, Jackson and Grayson, and Ryan Brice and wife Cristy, of Gastonia, N.C. and their son, Brody. Also surviving him is his sister in law, Zepher Dean of Alexandria, LA. He is survived by many other relatives, friends, and church family. Special thanks to his caregivers Michelle Sargent in Athens and Keosha Martin James in Baton Rouge for the attention and love they gave our Dad. Also, our heartfelt thanks to Hospice nurse Cathy Taylor RN, Dr. Gerald Barber, and the nurses and staff of the Butterfly Wing Unit. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Boulevard, Baton Rouge, LA on Thursday, February 23 from 5:00 p.m.until 9:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Friday, February 24 at from 9am until service at 10:00 a.m. with the Revs. Mike Dean, Thurston Brice and Ryan Brice officiating. Honored to be pallbearers are his grandsons Jason Wall, Jared Wall, Kevin Dean, Chris Wall, Marcus Wall, Michael Wall, Ryan Brice and Jeff Frye. Honorary pallbearer is Keith Wall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church, PO Box 1434 Athens, TX, 75751 or to a charity of your choice. A man of great faith, he was immensely devoted to his family and Lord. He leaves a legacy of kindness, love, and wonderful memories of fishing, laughter and love of ice cream that will continue in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We love you, Pa!
