"He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty." - Psalm 91:1. Our loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, April 30, 2008. Calvin, as everyone called him, was born in Garyville on Sept. 5, 1915, and was 92 at the time of his death. Calvin graduated from Leon Godchaux High School in Reserve. In 1978, he retired from Gulf States Utilities after 33 years working at the Louisiana Station in Baton Rouge. He enjoyed watching baseball and football and loved fishing, dancing, cooking and gardening. Calvin was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Parish, where he served as past president of the Ushers Society and Holy Name Society. He also enjoyed visiting the sick of the parish and was an adorer of the Holy Eucharist for 22 years. On June 3, 2002, Calvin moved to Whealdon Estates, where he organized Catholic activities and started weekly Mass and communion for the residents. Calvin was a man of faith, family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all whom he has touched. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Friday, May 2, was from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church is on Saturday from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with the Rev.
