Captain Coleman "Sonny" Vidrine passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 after enduring much pain. Sonny signed up with U. S. Naval Reserve when he was in college and served for 8 years. He began his career with State Police as a Traffic Division Trooper at Troop K, Opelousas, LA. After 5 years he was transferred to Headquarters in Baton Rouge as a Narcotic and Detective Sergeant. He was then promoted to Lieutenant and served as Section Chief and became Supervisor of the Narcotics Section as Commander. He then became Section Chief of Detectives and Narcotics and then Investigative Support Commander. After 2½ years he served as Technical Services Commander Assistant to Chief of Staff. Next Coleman became Commander of Informational Services, the Special Services Commander and retired as Deputy Director, C.I.B. (Criminal Investigation Bureau). Coleman's major curriculum in college was Political Science. He also attended: Federal Bureau of Investigation - F.B.I. Academy; Northwestern Traffic Institute Command School, Federal Bureau of Narcotics, Washington, D.C., Federal Bureau of Investigation Management School, Louisiana State Police Academy School as well as numerous other training seminars in other related Law Enforcement courses. His Professional Associations were: F.B.I. After he retired from Louisiana State Police he started the Coleman Vidrine Enterprises, Inc. wherein he dealt with all types of investigations of criminal and civil matters. In addition to the above work, Coleman, a lifetime Catholic, volunteered with the Men of the Sacred Heart and conducted Enshrinements and Enthronements. Coleman was a Eucharistic Minister for the homebound in St. Agnes Parish. He also served as a Professor with the Cursillo Movement in Prairie Ronde for a number of years. After serving as an Altar Server when he was a boy he began again as an adult. He was a humble man of deep faith. He not only talked the talk; he walked the walk. He showed us all not only how to life, but as a loving friend said, "He taught us how to die." He will be intensely missed by family and friends, especially those at Coffee Call where he spoke openly about his faith. Coleman was preceded in death by his parents, Coleman and Hilda V. Vidrine and his and Jeanie's firstborn son, David, and their youngest child, Connie. His sister, Wyolene, died on Christmas Day, 2015. Coleman was too ill for the family to tell him she had passed away. They are together today. Wyolene's two surviving children are Mike Orihuela, Jr. and Therese Smith. Coleman is survived by his wife of 58 ½ years, Jeanie, and their son, Danial Coleman Vidrine, and his wife Holly Myers Vidrine and their two children, Amelia Vidrine Lapeyrouse and her husband Jeremy and their son, Henry (11 mos.) and Natalie Lynn Vidrine.
