Born May 9, 1950, in Plaquemine. Ray grew up in Port Allen. He attended Holy Family School in Port Allen, Holy Cross High School in New Orleans and graduated from LSU. Ray worked at Marchand Construction, where he became co-owner with his brother Mike, and continued to work even years after he retired. Ray possessed a deep faith and loved Manresa and his Small Christian Community that he and Nancy have been a part of for over 30 years. Ray was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed being on the water with family and friends, watching the sunrise and in the woods, where it was nice and quiet and he could read his books and occasionally see a deer.
Ray was an amazing husband, father, neighbor and friend. Like a great oak, his branches and roots reached far into the community. With undoubted strength, wisdom, and a great sense of humor he anchored the people around him in love and great hugs.
Ray is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy Levert Marchand; their son, Adam Marchand (Leah Marchand); two grandchildren that he adored, Madison and Alex; a brother, Mike Marchand (Lisa Marchand) and their three children, Elizabeth, Catherine and Mikey; two nieces, Ashley Bourgeois (Miles Bourgeois) and their three children: Ashton, Paulina, and Jeanne Marie; Amy Johnson (Ryan Johnson); and their three children: Stafford, Claire and Margaret; two sisters-in-law, Sandra Fauver and Beverly Hulin and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll “Ray” and Juanita Marchand, sister, Paula Marchand and brother, Alan Marchand.
