Carolyn Mayeux Songy Adams passed on June 24, 2024 at the age of 95. She was born in Alexandria, LA, and attended LSU, where she met and married Gerald E. Songy. They lived in Baton Rouge until 1957 when she unexpectedly became widowed at the young age of 28 with six children. She moved her family back to Alexandria to live with her parents, Della and Henry Mayeux. She later married George C Adams, a handsome, eligible bachelor with no children, in 1963. George adopted all of Carolyn’s children and had one son together. Carolyn and George lived a full life with an active household in Alexandria until they moved to St. James Place in Baton Rouge.
Carolyn was blessed with seven children: Chip Songy (Stephanie), Baton Rouge; Fran Songy Randall, Chattanooga, TN; Jimmy Songy (deceased); Julie Songy Durkee, Atlanta, GA; Michael Songy (Jean Anne), Baton Rouge; David Songy (Lisa), Atlanta; and Charles Adams (Danielle), Lake Oconee, GA; as well as 20 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
Carolyn was a happy matriarch celebrating her 95th birthday this past November with over 60 family members traveling in from all over. She greatly valued her Catholic faith and contributed time to Legion of Mary, and various church organizations. She was involved in a Monday morning rosary group with the same 7 ladies for over 50 years. As her children grew older, she found more time to play bridge, travel, and lunch with friends. At St. James, she thoroughly enjoyed the lectures, cocktail hour, bridge, Rummikub, book clubs, and various field trips offered. She was an avid reader and sped through her Kindle books.
A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Church, Baton Rouge, at 10am on Monday, July 1 preceded by Visitation 9-10am in the church.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. James Place, 333 Lee Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70808
