Catherine Belcher Evans, 101, died peacefully at home in Bethany, Okla., on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009. She was born Oct. 28, 1907, and was the wife of the late Rev. Frederick A. Evans, of New Orleans and Kenner, and the daughter of Major and Mrs. Arthur Belcher, who were of Baton Rouge. Catherine Evans resided most of her life in Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Kenner. She escaped Hurricane Katrina in August 2005, and moved from Kenner to live with her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Shelley Evans, at their home in Bethany. Catherine Evans, a graduate of LSU, was an accomplished pianist and organist who also played the violin and xylophone. She also had a beautiful singing voice. Catherine Evans loved life and is survived by her son, Charles A. Evans; daughters, Ruth E. Evans, Mary Catherine Prudhomme and Esther E. Crossland; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, who all celebrate her life and spirit. Funeral arrangements were made by John M. Ireland Funeral Home in Moore, Okla., for visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., Baton Rouge, from 9 a.m. until noon on Tuesday, Feb. 24, with a funeral service at 2 p.m. Burial at Roselawn Cemetery, Baton Rouge.
