CJ was a well-loved teacher and member of Morton Ranch Jr. High while I was there. He always had something witty, funny, or sensible to say when you needed to hear it. I’ll never forget his smile, humor, wisdom and the music he added to our school family. I’m so sad to hear of his passing and am sending prayers to the family.

I love pizza because of CJ.

My mother was a great cook, but she didn't make pizza. The only place I ate pizza was in my elementary school lunch room. To say that the pizza they made was awful, is an understatement.  I would take one or two bites and then hide the rest under my napkin. Many years later, the Broadmoor High School Stage Band was attending an event at Southeastern State in Hamond. A group of us (including CJ) were trying to decide where to go for lunch. Someone suggest Pizza Inn. Everyone except for me liked the choice. I protested, but was overruled. On the way, CJ said just get a cheese pizza and you will like it. With no other choice left, I did as he said. When the pizza arrived, it looked good, it smelled good, and after finally taking a bite I realized it tasted great! I discovered that all pizzas didn't taste bad, just the pizzas from the elementary school lunch room. To this day, pizza is one of my favorite meals. If it hadn't been for CJ's encouragement (or threats... I can't remember which it was) I would have missed out on pizza for the last 50 years. Thank you CJ!!


To C.J.'s family - I was saddened to hear of C.J.'s passing.  We went to SLU together.  He got me through Chemistry class!  He also lived just below us on the first floor in College Town Apartments in the late '70's.   What a great musician, kind person, and intelligent man.  Even though I have not seen him in over 40 years, I'll miss him.

It is an honor for Masonry to pay a final tribute to the memory of Brother DiPalma, whose life was inseparably linked to ours. We mourn his departure from the Circle of our Fraternity.

Mr. DiPalma was our band director during my time at Saint Paul's.  Tall guy with a big heart who loved the music and made us love it too.  

I knew CJ from elementary school through our school years.  It saddens me to hear of his passing.

I was a band student of his at Hammond High School...he was the greatest band director and a friend to all his students!!!

So sorry to hear of CJ's passing. I had the opportunity to work with him in a club band we put together in Houston. He was a kind man and a solid musician who took his craft seriously. May his memory always be a a blessing.

I was truly sorry to hear that Charles had passed. I remembered babysitting for the DiPalmas back in the 60’s.

Lots of time spent next to you on a bandstand with your solid bass playing; it was always a pleasure.

Mr. DiPalma was my teacher at St. Paul’s. He was always very encouraging and supportive of my songwriting. I learned a lot being in his class. Blessings to him and his family.

CJ and I first met back in middle school and very quickly became live long friends. Although we went out different ways after College, we still managed to stay in touch and maintained our friendship. He quite a guy and truly loved his family. He will be missed. Rest In Peace my friend.

CJ was a member of the Covington Concert Band (Covington, LA). The photo above shows CJ (in center) playing his clarinet on the June 2nd, 2022 rehearsal playing "The Stars and Stripes Forever" by Sousa. We were lucky enough to have CJ join the CCB and perform a couple of concerts with us on clarinet. We were graced by his beautiful personality and great talent. He will be missed by us all.

CJ was one my big brother’s-Mike Lovell- best friends while going to Broadmoor High School in Baton Rouge, LA. . I remember CJ coming over to the house almost daily in Sherwood Forest. We had so much fun & shared so many great memories. I pray for your comfort. He left his legacy through his family & children. God Bless you.
