
He was a retired construction manager with Georgia Pacific and BASF. He had a degree in civil engineering from Oklahoma State University. He liked to say he had built plants in 15 states and two foreign countries. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Max died at 9:35 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, at his residence. He was 78. He loved to hunt and fish. He had many hobbies, including oil painting, stained glass, carving ducks, making jewelry, collecting and repairing antique clocks, stamp collecting and playing Bridge. He won first place in the Louisiana Chili Cooking contest in 1981. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Monday, Dec. 13, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Tuesday, Dec. 14, from 9:30 a.m. until the religious service in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Ken Carroll. Interment with military honors will be follow at Port Hudson National Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Evelyn Carter Johnson; children, Kris Tina Johnson, of Washington, D.C., Charles "Chuck" Johnson, his wife, Janet, of Painesville, Ohio, and their children, Lynn Johnson, of Cleveland, Ohio, Jon Robert Johnson, of Ohio and Charlie Johnson, of Painesville; and Jon Lloyd Johnson, his wife, Tara, of Baton Rouge, and their children, Jonathan and Everett Johnson, of Baton Rouge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Sr. and Ethel Phillips Johnson; and a brother, Jim Johnson. He was a 32 degree Mason and a Shriner, a member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church and the Baton Rouge Bridge Club. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Services of the Capital Area.
