Charlie was born and raised in Lima, Peru, before moving to Baton Rouge in the 70’s, where he has since resided. Charlie was an avid tennis player and beloved tennis coach. He coached many people of all ages in the Baton Rouge area, as well as the Citadel in North Carolina. Before moving to the United States, Charlie worked as a liaison for a major pipeline company, where he worked closely with B&R and Bechtel project managers. Charlie also spoke multiple languages. He had a vested interest in architecture. He was an outstanding bowler in Peru, where he won the international trophy in the early 70’s. One of his favorite pastimes was to tell his children and grandchildren stories. He was a man of many talents, but his love for his family and his love for coaching kids were what he treasured most. He had a special place in his heart for all dogs, as his tennis student will certainly remember Ruby and Sophie. The phrase, “He would give you the shirt off his back,” was truly Charlie. He had a heart for helping people. He will be truly missed by all. We love you Papa! God Bless and thank you for all that you sacrificed.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Sharon of 58 years; children, Michael (Patti), Sean (Bridget), Neal (Donnella), and Kelly (Tiffany); grandchildren, Erica (Beau), Jonathon (Paige), Gabrielle, Adrian (Gabby), Alexander, and Lauren; great-grandchildren, Layla, Noah, Eli, Leighton, Lawson, and two foster grandchildren Peter and Lyn.
Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Celso and Carmen Garrido; and Sharon’s parents, Charles Shannon and Florence O’Neill.
A private memorial service will take place at a later date. Family and friends are invited to sign the online guestbook at www.greenoaksfuneral.com
