

Christine Runfalo Russell, beloved wife, mother, "mawmaw," friend and neighbor, passed away on Dec. 9, 2021 and is at long last in the loving embrace of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was 96. Originally from Independence, La., she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and spent most of her life raising her family in Baton Rouge. She was active in several church communities throughout her life and enjoyed spreading the Gospel to those around her. Her greatest joy in life was to be with her family and especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ernest and Soh Leng Russell of McKinney, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Debra Russell and Paul Higgins of Baton Rouge; daughter Lynn Haggard of Shreveport; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, William H. Russell of Amite, La.; mother, Annie Marretta Caruso of Independence, La.; stepfather, Tony Caruso of Independence, La., and sister Corrine Cascio of Independence, La. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, La., on Tuesday, Dec. 14 from 12:30 pm until the funeral services at 2 pm. Burial to immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. The family wishes to extend a special debt of gratitude to those who provided loving care to her over the years, including Eva Miller, Diane Calmes, Josie Durousseau, Edna Washington, Charles Harris and Hospice of Baton Rouge.
