A native of Shreveport and long-time resident of Baton Rouge, LA, Cindy Hickenbotam Fontenot, 62, joined hands with her Lord and Savior on Friday, September 4, 2015, while vacationing in Destin, FL. Cindy was a breast cancer survivor of ten years; however, the side effects of cancer treatment eventually overcame her weakened body. Cindy was a Class of 1972 graduate at Woodlawn High School in Shreveport, LA, as well as graduate of Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Nursing in 1982. Cindy went on to practice as a Registered Nurse specializing in public health and retired after 25 years of service. Cindy read fiction and also loved music, singing, swimming, her country, pets, and of course, her beloved husband and family. Despite having health issues, Cindy was quite an accomplished swimmer. Cindy's Christian faith was also undeniable; she was an active member of the Francis Asbury United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir with the voice of an angel from heaven. Cindy found great joy in spending time with her grandchildren. Cindy and Hunter spent countless hours watching their favorite movies and reading Bible verses. Cindy was preceded in death by her father, Albert Ross Hickenbotam, and mother, Johnette Kralich Louk. Cindy is survived by her husband, Peter T. Fontenot of Baton Rouge, sisters Celia H. Dupre and Alice H. Brocato, stepchildren Wesley Fontenot and Shannon Fontenot, nephew Serio Brocato, niece Sydney Brocato, and grandchildren Hunter Rinehart, Ender Fontenot, and Mina Fontenot. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, from 4:30 PM until funeral services in the chapel at 6:30 PM. In Lieu of Flowers donations are to be made to Wounded Warriors or Woman's Hospital Foundation, Baton Rouge LA.
