
A retired teacher, she taught for 17 years at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School, where she was the last of the original schoolteachers. She was a native of Napoleonville and a resident of Baton Rouge. She died at 2 p.m.Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, at her home after a short illness at the age of 90. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Tuesday, Jan. 16, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with recitation of the rosary at 6:30 p.m. Visitation at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., concelebrated by the Rev. Miles Walsh and the Rev. Vic Messina. Interment inGreenoaksMemorial Park. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ruth and Paul McKeough of Baton Rouge and Lucy and Thomas Gritzmacher of Washington, D.C.; son, Joseph V. Gilbert Jr. of Baton Rouge; six grandchildren, Herbert "Tab" and Caroline Bourgeois, Rachel Bourgeois Garcia, Kristi Gilbert, Duncan McKeough and Lydia Gritzmacher; and seven great-grandchildren, Richard Garcia, Breeanne Garcia, Shelby Bourgeois, Baylee Bourgeois, Tabitha Evans, Olivia Evans and William "Jack" Evans. Preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Joseph V. Gilbert Sr.; parents, Munson S. and Clara Marquette Chauvin; daughter, Ann Carol Bourgeois; two sisters, Dorothy Tucker and Lucy Ella LeBlanc; and two brothers, Munson Chauvin Jr. and John Arthur Chauvin. Pallbearers will be Tab Bourgeois, Gustavo Ruiz de Chavez, John Chauvin, Tom Chauvin, James Garcia, Todd Peavey, Robert Gilbert and Herbert Bourgeois Jr. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.
