"David, a life-long resident of Baton Rouge, was born August 27, 1925 and passed away at home on June 27, 2017, at age 91. He was a CPA who began his career as an accountant at Hawthorne, Weymouth, & Carroll and retired from public accounting as a partner at Postlethwaite, Netterville, Evans, & Major. David served in the United States Navy in the Pacific theater during World War II. In younger days, David was an active member of St. James Episcopal Church where he served on the Vestry and Associate Vestry and as Treasurer. David is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 67 years Ida Reed Evans; three sons David Mandeville Evans, IV and wife Rose Mary Freyou Evans (Rosie), Charles Gregory Evans (Greg) and wife Karen Page Evans, and Thomas Pegues Evans (Tommy); four granddaughters Amy Evans Jansing and her husband Jeff, Kelley Evans Handford and her husband Chris, Katie Evans Moffit and her husband Keith, and Juliette Evans; great grandsons Turner Moffit and Beckett Jansing and great granddaughters Madeline Jansing and Lillian Handford, as well as nieces, nephews, and their children. David was preceded in death by his parents David Mandeville Evans, Jr. and Mary Lake Evans, his brother John Parker Evans, and his daughter Catherine Elise Evans. His parents instilled qualities that were constants throughout his life: honesty, integrity, loyalty, courage in the face of adversity, a head-up, shoulders-back, firm-handshake attitude, and dedication to family. He became an excellent dancer and, in fact, met his future bride when he was partnered with her on the ballroom floor. He enjoyed singing, which he did loudly, with gusto, and somewhat off key. As a child of the Depression, as he described himself when making some point with his children, he took much pleasure in food and beverage. He had an easy smile, a good sense of humor, and an abundance of charm. He enjoyed conversation and the swapping of well-told tales. In sum, he was good company. These pleasures were abundant in the family gatherings that he hosted or attended. His was a life well-lived and well-loved. Though we will miss him, we are warmed by the wealth of memories that make us smile. The family thanks all the doctors, nurses, and medical personnel that cared for David during these past two years. Special thanks to Dr. Christopher McCanless and home care-giver Donna Layton for their constant support. Services will be held Monday, July 3 at noon at St. James Episcopal Church, 205 N. 4th Street, Baton Rouge, LA. Visitation will be in the parish hall from 10:30 a.m. Internment at Roselawn Cemetery, 4045 North Street. Celebrant: Rev. Ralph F. Howe; Readers: niece Judy Evans Guerra and nephew Andrew R. Reed; Pallbearers: sons David, Greg, and Tommy and nephews John P. Evans, Jr., John R. Reed, and Dan A. Reed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Lung Association, Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge, St. James Episcopal Church, or the charity of your choice.
