
""Old soldiers never die, they just fade away".A member of the "Greatest Generation", a native of Chicago and longtime resident of Baton Rouge, he was born on July 9, 1920 and passed away on Monday, September 19, 2016 at the age of 96. David proudly served his country in World War II as a member of the Army Air Corps, Technical Training Command. After his military service, he became a supervisor at Schuylkill Metals Corporation working for over 35 years. He was very dedicated to his family and in his free time, he enjoyed working on cars, trucks, and all things mechanical. David was also the neighborhood handyman, always willing to assist his neighbors in times of need. He was also a proud member of the American Legion and a parishioner of St. Isidore the Farmer Catholic Church. David is survived by his son, David Elmer Wendt, Jr. and wife Melwyn of Plaquemine; and grandchildren, David Elmer Wendt, III and Mary Kathryn Wendt; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Ella Bee Andre' Wendt; son, Don Andre' Wendt; parents, Rudolph August Wendt and Emma Gust Wendt; brothers, Robert P. Wendt and identical twin John A. Wendt. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at St. Isidore the Farmer Catholic Church (5657 Thomas Road, Baton Rouge, LA 70811) from 8:30 am until the Funeral Mass at 10:00 am celebrated by Father Frank Bass with organist Louis Wendt. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Pallbearers will be David E. Wendt, III, Kenny Wendt, David O. Wendt, Robert Wendt, Charles Wendt, and Howard Tull. The family would like to express their gratitude to his Aides, Iydell, "Pumpkin", and Gwen ("Dr. Quinn"), the staff of Ollie Steele Burden Manor, the staff of Hospice of Baton Rouge, and special neighbors Pat Linton and Bruce Corley. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in David's name may be made to The American Legion, St. Isidore the Farmer Catholic Church, or a charity of your choice.
