
A good and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he died Monday, May 21, 2007, at his home. He was 94, a native of Paincourtville and resident of Baton Rouge since 1940. He practiced dentistry for 52 years. Survived by his wife of 66 years, Elisa LeBlanc Comeaux; five children and their spouses, Neila and Richard Eckler, Clifford Jr. and Natalie Comeaux, Deanie Bahan, Ann and Thomas Legleu and Walter Comeaux II; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ulysses Comeaux; 11 brothers and sisters, Phillip, Sabin, George, Walter and Sam Comeaux, Elda Newchurch, Laura Vedros, Lucy Curtis and Eva, Anne and Noelie Comeaux; and a son-in-law, Mark Bahan. He attended LSU and graduated from Loyola University Dental School and did advanced studies at the U.S. Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served aboard the USS Allendale in the Pacific. He was in the Navy Reserves from 1946 to 1962 and retired with the rank of commander. He was a member of the Military Order of World Wars and past commander of the Baton Rouge Chapter and a lifetime member of the American Legion. He was a lifetime member of American Dental Association, member of Louisiana Sixth District Dental Society, past president of East Baton Rouge Dental Society, on the dental staff of Our Lady of the Lake Regional and Baton Rouge General medical centers from 1947 to 1992, chief of the dental staff at Our Lady of the Lake in 1962, honored lifetime member of Pierre Fauchard Academy, member of Delta Sigma Delta honorary fraternity, past member of the board of directors of St. James Bank, charter member and past president of Capital City Kiwanis Club, member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church Usher Society, Knights of Columbus and Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher. Visiting at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Wednesday, May 23, from 1 p.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 2:30 p.m., the Rev. Miles Walsh, celebrant, and Brother Carl Evans. Entombment in Greenoaks Memorial Park Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Michael Eckler, Stephen Eckler, Patrick Eckler, Clifford Comeaux III, Elisa Clare Babin, Remy Gross III, Christen Legleu, Catherine White, Neila Stone, Walter Comeaux III, Brian Comeaux and Allyson Comeaux. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Capital City Kiwanis Club and Riley Boudreaux. Special note of appreciation to Dr. Joseph Deumite, Marilyn Holzer and Ethel DeLage.
