With a heavy heart our precious mother, Delores Diane Sumrall Griffin, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. She devoted her life to her children, Tonia and Trey, creating a home filled with love and laughter. She never wanted to be the center of attention, but she was always the heart of our family. She always sacrificed herself for her children to have the best she could give them. She taught her children how important family was to life. Everyone said she was such a good listener and truly cared for others and showed it in so many ways. Her children always received a card for every “holiday” – Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, etc. These will always be BIG to us! She was the STRONGEST woman we have ever met especially becoming a widow at the young age of 29. Delores Sumrall Griffin was just 78 years young when the Angels took her to Heaven. She was born on December 22, 1947, to A.C. and Maxine Sumrall in Bogalusa, LA, moving to Baton Rouge at 18 years old. She and her best friend Tana Weiner LaPorte lived in the Garden District and went to business school. She remembers meeting Price LeBlanc when she worked in the WYNK radio station building. Delores married the love of her life, Jerry Wayne Griffin, on July 21, 1968. Having her first child, Tonia, a year and a day later. Then a bouncing baby boy, Trey, came to enrich our lives in seven years thereafter. She was always supportive of her children’s endeavors from dance recitals to sports. Delores was a dedicated and loyal accountant for the Louisiana Department of Public Safety - Office of Motor Vehicles: Finance Department, for over 40 years. Her work ethic was exceptional and accurate; she always called the bank on “penny errors”. Her yard was her haven. She loved birds, flowers and butterflies. She was a great seamstress making all of Tonia’s baby clothes and dresses growing up. She even made Tonia and Trey’s Halloween costumes even into adulthood. She loved having “projects” just like her Father. She is survived by her children, Tonia Griffin and Trey Griffin; brother, Abner Sumrall, (Sarah); and nieces and nephews, Michelle Learn, Jon Micah Sumrall, Amie Blore, Stacey Hodges (Robby), Chad Griffin (Victoria), Chris Griffin (Stacey), Beth Petty (Byron), Erin Sowers (Brian), and Stephen Hale; sisters-in-law, Janet Puckett and Sandy Griffin; and brothers-in-law, Phil Puckett and Mark Hale; and many close friends, especially Karen Pelton, Courtney Charette, Norman Charette, Helen Guelfo, Clark Brooks, Ronnie and Carol Depew, Ken and Ginger Spears, and Dale and Diane Songy. Delores is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Wayne Griffin; parents, A.C. and Maxine Sumrall; in-laws, Hollis and Ernestine Griffin; brother-in-law, Don Griffin; sister-in-law, Lori Hale; niece, Robyn Hale; and best friend, Tana LaPorte and her daughter, Autumn.
