

Donald “Donnie” Anthony Modicut passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday, August 3rd, 2024 after 87 years of a life fully lived. He was born on November 22nd, 1936 in Baton Rouge Louisiana to Joseph B. Modicut Sr. and Josephine Sedita Modicut. He was a graduate of St. Agnes Catholic Middle School, attended Catholic High, and later transferred to Baton Rouge High there receiving his diploma. Donnie fell for the girl next door, and soon after gave Catherine Cambre Modicut a ring resulting in 62 years of marriage. He retired from Allied Chemical/Honeywell after 39 years of service as an operator.
His unwavering passion for baseball started in his younger years, and he coached several little league teams which included each of his three sons. After closing his coaching chapter, he became the Park Commissioner for BREC Perkins Road Park. He was the biggest fan of LSU baseball to anyone who knew him and never missed listening to a game on his little radio! He had an amazing green thumb which led to the biggest and best garden. Fishing was also one of his favorite pastimes with several of his brother-in-laws to gain quality time with family and spend time in nature.
No one will ever forget his famous meatballs and spaghetti served in his massive pot that was always shared to whoever he had promised it to. His devotion to his Catholic faith was evident throughout his life. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus –St. Agnes and spent many years serving as an usher. He will truly be missed by his children, relatives and friends, and also his grandchildren and great grandchildren –who know him as Paw-Paw Donnie.
Mr. Modicut is survived by sons Gerald “Jerry” Modicut, Mark (Allison) Modicut, Todd (Tammy) Modicut, daughter Kim (Keith) Minvielle, brother Marion Modicut, grandchildren Ashley Minvielle, Andrew (Courtney) Minvielle, A’layne (Andrew) Schexnayder, Taylor Modicut, Paige Modicut, Derek (Heather) Modicut, Kayla (Jordan) Wilkinson, Adrainn (Corbett) Russell, great grandchildren Brody Gregoire, Rowdy & Millie Schexnayder, Owen & Cecilia Minvielle, Ryleigh & Audrey Modicut, Ruth Wilkinson, and Max Russell.
He is proceeded in death by parents Joseph B. Modicut & Josephine Sedita Modicut, brother Joseph B. Modicut Jr., sisters Mary Giammerse, Effie Unbehagen, Annie Hennigan, Sarah Nola, and Theresa Gueho.
Pallbearers for the service include: Andrew Minvielle, Derek Modicut, Brody Gregoire, Randy LeBlanc, Kendall Gerald, and Kyle Duncan. Honorary pallbearers include: the Knights of Columbus –St. Agnes.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 PM on Saturday, August 10th, 2024. The Mass will be held at St. Aloysius Catholic Church on 2025 Stuart Avenue in Baton Rouge, LA 70808. A visitation will be held at the church prior to the Mass beginning at 12 noon. The internment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park located at 9595 Florida Blvd. in Baton Rouge, LA.
