

"Doris passed away peacefully in her home Friday morning, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's at the age of 95. A native of Avoyelles Parish and longtime resident of Baton Rouge, she was a charter member of Broadmoor Baptist Church and was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother to her family. Doris was a great seamstress, enjoyed cooking, and was an excellent homemaker. She is greatly loved and is will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband F. Bernard Manuel; son, John Bernard Manuel; sister, Elsie Roberts; and her parents. She is survived by two grandchildren, Jason Bernard Manuel (wife Katie) of Zachary, LA and Amanda Catherine Manuel of Plano, TX. Long time care and support were given by two nieces Elizabeth Sibley Morgan (husband Dave) and Joan Louise Sibley. Caregivers Deborah Ford, Evelyn (Effie) Haynie, Ella Rice, RaTonya (Toni) Hibbler, and Helen Slaughter have long been part of the extended family and have provided support for Doris when it was most needed. Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Rabenhorst Funeral Home (825 Government Street, Baton Rouge, LA 70802) from 11:00 AM until the Funeral Service at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doris's name to the Alzheimer's Association of the Capital Area.
