A resident of Baton Rouge since 1938, she died at 11:34 a.m. Monday, July 27, 2009, at her son's home in Covington. She was 87 and a native of Birmingham, Ala. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East chapel, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Thursday, July 30, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home on Friday from 8 a.m. until religious services at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Ron Lambe. Burial in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Lisa Johnston, of Covington; a sister and brother-in-law, Billie Jo and Leo Lee, of Baton Rouge; seven grandchildren, Bryan, Brent, Brad, Kathy, Laurie, Austin and Sawyer; and eight great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, D.D. "Jimmie" Johnston; and two sons, Mike and Mickey Johnston. She was a lifelong member of Istrouma Baptist Church, a 1940 graduate of Istrouma High School and a long time volunteer at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Mickey Johnston Scholarship Fund through the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
