Dorothy was born in Jamestown, New York to Walter and Romaine Babcock on September 19, 1926. The family moved 'down south' to Baton Rouge when Dorothy was 12 years old and the city became her much loved home. She attended Baton Rouge High School where she met her high school sweetheart, Thomas Pruyn. After Thomas completed serving in the United States Army Air Corps during World War Il, and Dorothy graduated from LSU the couple married on August 8, 1948, and remained committed and joyful best friends for 72 years, raising 3 children in the Broadmoor area of Baton Rouge.
Family was the forefront of Dorothy's purpose in life. Faithful, fun, firm, loving, curious, intelligent, informed- what a wonderful woman to follow. Her children and grandchildren continued to go to Mommaw for her wisdom, and logical thinking throughout her long life.
Dorothy was an effective and dedicated educator blessing Louisiana students first in the small town of DeQuincy and later at Villa del Rey and Broadmoor Elementary. She received her Masters degree in Counseling from Southeastern Louisiana University later in life and was thrilled to become the Guidance Counselor at Brookstown Elementary under principal, Jackie Porta. Counseling was one of her God-given gifts. Her insights, listening ear, and wisdom continued to guide family, friends, and health care helpers to the end of her days.
Dorothy and Thomas were big Tiger fans, enjoyed traveling, and loved serving the Lord through their church, Broadmoor United Methodist Church, receiving in return much more than they gave. The Gumbo Sunday School class was their place of learning, serving and committed Christian friendship. As a senior citizen, Dorothy was led to begin Southeast Ministries to feed and serve people in need in her community. Later, she initiated the church Care Card Ministry at BUMC to reach out to aging members who could no longer go out to attend church.
Dorothy is survived by: her daughter, Susan (Harrison) Weber; 3 grandchildren: Mandy (Brent) Marcus of Prairieville, Whitney (Dustin) Flint of B.R., and Harrison 'Chip'
Weber of San Antonio; 5 great grandchildren: Kadin Ohmer and Aubrey Marcus of
