Dorothy Bruner Rockett passed away on July 9, 2022, at Marigold Assisted Living in Alexandria, Louisiana. Born August 7, 1935, to Hurshel Bruner and Minnie Ray Bruner, she was the youngest and last surviving of ten children.
She is predeceased by her husband, Rev. B. Clyde Rockett (m. September 2, 1961), whom she met while they were graduate students at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary where they both earned master’s degrees. Their first church was in Campti, Louisiana, and they had their first child, Katherine, in Natchitoches (husband, Joseph Edwards; son, Collin Edwards). Torn between home and foreign missionary work, they settled on San Juan, Puerto Rico, where they had their first son, Mark (wife, Michele). Subsequent moves included Mystic Islands, New Jersey, and Springfield, Massachusetts, where they had their youngest, Matthew (wife, April; daughters, Madison, Kaitlyn, Riley, and Karah). The Rocketts served in Maryland and Pennsylvania before returning to Louisiana.
Mrs. Rockett will be remembered as a kind and loving mother, grandmother, and friend who showed the true spirit of Christ every day of her life. She is and will always be deeply missed.
A visitation for Dorothy will be held Monday, July 18, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70815, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
She will be laid to rest in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
