"Edith Ilean Strickland Sommers passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at the age of 86. She was a loving Christian wife, mother and grandmother. She was born January 27, 1932 in Indianola, MS. and was a longtime resident of Baton Rouge. She retired from the Advocate after 35 years. She is survived by her sons; Joey H. Sommers Jr., his wife Jennie and Ronnie Sommers, grandchildren; Jacob and fiancé Jacy Marchiafava, Benjamin (Ben) and wife Sydney, Anna and husband Jacob Fisher, Stephen and Joseph, siblings; Noel Strickland, Ruth Branning and husband Gidd. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph H. Sommers,Sr. ,parents; Richard S. and Ilean Strickland, brothers Mearl, James Learl, H. Eugene and Edward Strickland. There will be graveside rites at Greenoaks Memorial Park for 10:30 am, Friday, July 20, 2018. In lieu of flowers please support pediatric brain tumor research through Emmas' Memory.
