
Elaine Fletcher passed peacefully from this Earth at her home at Williamsburg Retirement Center on Wednesday, May 27, 2009. She was 85. Known to her family as M'Laine, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Elaine was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge and attended LSU, where she was a member of Delta Zeta sorority. After graduating in business administration in 1945, Elaine married Robert Eugene Fletcher, who remained her sweetheart for 64 years. Elaine always maintained a passion for LSU, and earned the status of "Golden Tiger" with the LSU Alumni Association. She retired as a district manager with World Book Encyclopedia with 30 years of service. She is survived by her husband, Bob, of Baton Rouge; daughters, Leslie Carroll and husband Mike, and Cathy Fairchild and husband Houston, all of Baton Rouge; sons, Jimmy Fletcher and wife Yvonne, Baton Rouge, and Tom Fletcher, Ph.D., and partner Stephane St. Jean, of Montreal, Canada; and grandchildren, Amy Webb and husband Don, Wendy Singleton and husband Eddie, Matt and Chris Carroll, Joey and Josh Fairchild, Katie and Casey Fletcher, and Vanessa Richard and husband Brian. She is also survived by two great-granddaughters, Reece and Aubrey Singleton; and a sister, Cara Rapier. She was preceded in death by parents, William L. and Lorena H. Keating; and a son, Robert E. "Rusty" Fletcher Jr. Pallbearers will be Josh and Joey Fairchild, Matt and Chris Carroll, Billy Noonan, Brian Richard, Don Webb and Eddie Singleton. Honorary pallbearer is Jack Jackson. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Thursday, May 28, was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 445 Marquette Ave., on Friday, May 29, from 9 a.m. until Mass at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Matt Lorrain, celebrant. Interment in Roselawn Memorial Park. A special thanks to Dr. Caroline Flint, Dr. Christopher McCanless, Hospice of Baton Rouge, and nurses Pauline, Vicky and Shannon.
