
A loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, loyal friend and retired educator, Eleanor Matthews Jones, wife of George E. Jones Sr. departed this earth Thursday, July 7, 2011. She was born Nov. 2, 1925, in Baton Rouge. Eleanor was the daughter of the late Johnnie and Gertrude Curry Matthews. She was a member of Mount Zion First Baptist Church, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., and was an educator in the East Baton Rouge Parish school system. Her memories will be cherished by her husband of 61 years, George E. Jones Sr.; two children, George E. Jones Jr., of Baton Rouge, and Patrice Jones Warren, of Grand Prairie, Texas; three grandchildren, Courtney Jones Tanner, of Grand Prairie, George E. Jones III, of Baton Rouge, and Garrett Matthew Warren, of Grand Prairie; four great-grandchildren, Destani Tucker, Triniti Tanner, Matthew Tanner and Anaiia Jones; first cousins, Shirley C. Murray and Gordon W. Curry; and other relatives and friends. Eleanor will be missed by those who felt her influence, her love of music and saw her tremendous example of affection. Services will be held Monday, July 11, at Mount Zion First Baptist Church as follows: Visitation at 9 a.m.; Omega Omega service at 10 a.m.; and funeral service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made in honor of Eleanor M. Jones to: National Kidney Foundation. Entombment in Roselawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum. Services under the direction of Rabenhorst Funeral Home.
