

Elise Matherne Zeringue, born April 8, 1916, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away Friday, August 31, 2012 at the age of 96. Elise attended school in Garyville, worked at Avondale Shipyard in New Orleans as a welder during WWII, and then worked for Wolf’s Sunbeam Bakery in Baton Rouge. She is a member of the Altar Society in Garyville and the Ladies Auxiliary VFW 8167 of Garyville. Elise was a volunteer and resident of Place Dubourg Retirement Homes in Laplace for 18 years, and then resided at Old Jefferson Community Care Center for the past two and a half years. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother and a great-great grandmother who will be missed deeply by all that knew her. Heaven has truly gained a beautiful angel. She is survived by her son, Herbert Joseph Zeringue Jr. and wife Christie Berthelot Zeringue; sisters, Inez Matherne Duhon and Elsie Matherne Cambre; six grandchildren Dea Zeringue Haynie, Theodore Joseph Zeringue Jr., Leigh Zeringue Cambre, John Rene Zeringue, Melanie Zeringue Riff and Hannah Elise Zeringue; 10 great grandchildren, Michele Haynie Hughes, Christopher Haynie, Robert Haynie, Sarah Zeringue, Micah Zeringue, Nicole Zeringue, Rene Zeringue, Kaleb Zeringue, Jeremy Guichet and Laila Cambre; and 5 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Leonia Matherne; brothers Adam, Charles, Joseph, and Sidney Matherne; sisters Eunice Matherne Miller and Gertrude Matherne Bradey; husbands, Herbert Zeringue Sr., Dugan Airington, and Clay Sibley; and son, Theodore Joseph Zeringue Sr. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 from 5pm until 9pm and resume Wednesday at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church from 9:30am until mass of Christian Burial at 11am.
