

"Elizabeth "Betty" Bertha Stirling Johnson, 88, passed away on September 18, 2017, at Carpenter House Hospice in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Betty was born on February 28, 1929, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was the daughter of John Mumford Stirling and Aline Margaret Guttzeit Stirling. Betty grew up in Baton Rouge, LA, graduated Baton Rouge High School in 1946, attended LSU, and married Adrain Earl Johnson, Jr., on June 10, 1949. The family lived in Wilton, CT from 1962-1968, where she made lifelong friends and some of her fondest memories. Upon returning to Baton Rouge, Betty worked as a substitute teacher and her favorite position was librarian at Westdale Junior High. She joined the Friends of the LSU Library and worked tirelessly for over 35 years on the annual book sale, making many friends. Betty enjoyed reading, cross-stitching, and jigsaw puzzles. She loved traveling both in the US and abroad with her husband, her sisters, and her close family. Betty is survived by her husband of 68 years, Adrain, sister Carol Anne Stirling; daughters Lynn Burke, Anne Hymel, and Pamela Mettley (Joseph) of Estero, Florida; grandchildren, William W. Burke, IV (Emma), Ryan Hymel of Los Angeles, CA, and Aimee Hymel; and great-grandchildren, William W. Burke, V and Henry Burke. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Margaret Barrett. Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 8 pm Friday, September 22 and from 9:00-11 am on Saturday September 23 with services at 11:00 am at Rabenhorst Funeral Home on Florida Blvd. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bill Burke, Ryan Hymel, Joe Mettley, Harry Moore, John Barrett, and Arthur (Peanut) Hymel. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or St Joseph's Hospice Foundation.
