Kathleen was born in Donner, LA. At the age of 5, her family moved to Baton Rouge where she stayed until moving to Krotz Springs in the 7th grade. She attended school there until graduation from Melville High School in 1956. Following graduation, she returned to Baton Rouge to attend Baton Rouge Vocational Tech School. She then secured a job there until the mid-60’s when she took a break to travel. When she returned, she went to work for the U.S. Forestry Service until the early 70’s when she decided to join her twin sister and brother-in-law in Jacksonville, FL where she remained.
She was an avid Elvis fan! One of the highlights in her life was actually meeting him while visiting Memphis. She was always known to enjoy playing the piano & singing, as well as watching pro-baseball. While living at Riverside Park Apartments in Jacksonville, she was Secretary for the Resident Council helping with events such as Christmas, Thanksgiving, birthdays, and anything else that may have needed her special touch! Her homemade desserts became as regular “must-have” for the Board of Directors Meetings as well as her presence working at churches in the area. Kathleen was social, involved, and incredibly loving. She brought joy and laughter to anyone fortunate enough to cross paths with her. Her life was lived full and with purpose and she will be missed deeply by many.
Preceded in death by her parents, Felix & Elva Hunter Barrilleaux; her brothers, Hunter, Johnny, Kenneth, and Phil Barrilleaux; her sister, Vivalee Atkinson. She leaves to mourn her twin sister and brother-in-law, Charleen & Rik Karlsson of Virginia, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 12:00 pm with a Memorial Service beginning at 1:00 pm. Interment will immediately follow Greenoaks Memorial Park at 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70815.
